After being hired for four years in a pruning firm,Paul Puech established himself in Faux -Le montagne next to Lake Vassivière in the department of Creuse,as a forest exploitant.Closely attached to Brittany,he got himself known in Quimper under the commercial narne of Kerne Elagage (Kerne means Cornouaille in French). In 1983,he made up his mind to stop his occupation in the Creuse to develop the ornarnental tree- cultivation in the South of Finistère. Hiring more than one employee a year, and investing a lot of money in the stafftraining, the firm was logically most solicited in 1987 because of the big storms for the freeing of areas, electric network and big properties.Nevertheless this natural disaster gradually had a perverse effect since Kerne Elagage had to dismiss 7 employees out of 20 and developed garden activities in order to cope with the shortage of work and above alI the excess of competitors on the market. .After 3 years ofunevenness in the business, the occupation having become balanced, the landscape activity could be stopped.ln 1993, the Mutuelles Sociales Agricoles insurance company awarded the third prize to the firm for the scheme of "developing security, training, individualisation". The challenge consisted in developing a spirit of quality in the firm through continuous training and giving a set of tools to each technician. This considerably reduced the breakdowns on sites:indeed, every technicien owns a pruning chain saw,a felling chain saw,2 hedge-pruners,a strimmer, all the necessary equipment to elirnb up trees and 3 specific ladders. This investment was financed through the decreasing in the cost of the upkeeping .In 1999,the equipment represented an investment of 4 000 000 F .The industrialization of the work enabled the firm to put the "35 heures " scheme into practice without increasing fares. Today,65% of the customers are private individuals,35 % are firms or organizations. This aptitude to meet the demand of a vast clientèle is the sign of the norm "quality" at Kerne Elagage. |
